COLLATERAL DAMAGE – PHOTO SERIES / Joshua Tree National Park
“A chronicle of the journey of earth, search of soul, growth of mind, body, and spirit. In the images I utilize symbolism of Earth and body as metaphor for global compassion, responsibility, and evolution for all mankind, forming an inner balance, a humanity within and between all selves, to create a better world.”
COLLATERAL DAMAGE is a project memorialized in sculpture, video and a photography series, featuring the compilation of bodies and body parts (“shells”) in a performance within the backdrop of a stark desert landscape. Each component stands alone, with the whole expressing the global imbalance within the environment, our loss of humanity as we move through a major paradigm shift and the drastic changes we are experiencing worldwide.
Wars in the Middle East, Arab Spring, refugees flooding across the globe, hunger, disease, drastic socio-economic shifts, and radical climate change forces us to re-evaluate our existence and demand massive reform and rethinking. Destabilized cultures clashing with old systems and beliefs have created a world in continuous flux. Rapidly increasing technology leaves the individual feeling fragmented, isolated, insecure and fearful - out of balance inside and out. The stark white bodies and body parts contorted and wedged between rocks and scattered on the desert landscape floor mirror our current state as disassembled, off-balance, and disconnected from each other and the earth.
With this photo series I try to get back in touch with myself, make amends with my past “shells” and reunite with the earth, bodies and body parts, attempting a universal balance through interaction, to find my own balance and our humanity within.
