As part of my “Deconstructing Lilli” period, the head and their braille messages have various socio, economic, political, and personal takes on generalizations of perceptions and assumptions that are meant to lure the viewer down a road of discovery, engage them in dialog, and surprise them with their findings. The braille messages relating to the various individual heads are another device used to coax the viewer towards the effort of understanding the story behind the work. A metaphor and call to everyone to take time and effort to get to know the others despite any differences.
These heads are constructed using my signature process of plaster-casting. Prior to each casting session, I asked each participant to write an essay answering personal question about themselves and their lives. This gives me a focus to make each head a unique and very personal story of the individual.
